IPBOARD Study Approved to be National Key Project

A Study on Interactive Whiteboard-based Multi-Modal learning project, which is being conducted by China’s Central Audiovisual Education Center and Julong Educational Technology Co.,Ltd, was approved on July the 20th, 2006. This study is to be the Key Project of China’s Central Audiovisual Education Center’s 11th Five-year Plan.

The National Study, which has been proceeding since August, 2006, positions IPBOARD to be the fundamental interactive whiteboard (IWB) in use in mainland Chinese Schools and the key piece of Educational Technology in the project. This further cements the place of the Julong IPBOARD in schools and training institutes and follows on from certification and recommendation by the National Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China in 2003. Julong IPBOARD is the only board to have been awarded such an honour by the Chinese MOE.

In an effort to improve educational outcomes for all Chinese children, and to foster students’ interest and creativity, the study attaches great importance to finding fruitful ways of Multi-modal IWB-based learning. Through study into effective use in pilot schools across many provinces, outstanding IWB-based lessons will be collected. These “sample lessons” will be instrumental in ensuring that all teachers have access material to ensure that they are fully supported to use the IPBOARD to really bring about the sort of teaching and learning that will make a difference to education in the PRC.

Similar to the British National Whiteboard Network, the project team will develop a “Chinese National Whiteboard Network” to provide case studies, resources and technical support to the great many IWB users across the country.

If the outcome of the study meets the aims of the National Ministry of Education initiative, the project is set to be a key to the transformation of teaching and learning in the Peoples Republic of China. It could be responsible for shifting the paradigm from traditional blackboard-based teaching to a modern multi-modal approach with the high quality IPBOARD as the centre piece of a connected learning classroom.
